The Extraction and Purification of DNA.

Popularly referred to as DNA, Deoxyribonucleic Acid is the element characterizing every living thing. Some of the essential materials you will need for the extraction process include alcohol, meat tenderizer, split peas, dishwashing detergent probably in liquid form, a blender, a beaker or clear glass container, a stirring rod or a spoon. In the first procedure, blend at least a half cup of split peas in a cupful of water. With that, you should obtain a soupy mixture then use a homogenous solution between the mixtures. One may also consider keeping the extra solution just in case. Then, pour some of the solutions you have, an adequate amount of it into a container up to a level of at least two inches.

In the third step, you need to add at least a tablespoonful of the liquid dishwashing detergent on top of the solution. Then stir the mixture slowly for about five minutes. Next consider adding a pinch of the meat tenderizer the stir again for five minutes. Having stirred the mixture, and then drizzle some alcohol above it. Consider adding the alcohol until you obtain a layer of three inches on the split peas solution. Peas are mostly used for this extraction because they are so rich in the molecule. Again the detergent is used to break down the membrane cell for it to release its contents and the meat tenderizer to dissolve the membrane nuclear for it to release the DNA inside. Use of the alcohol in the process is to bring out the DNA strands.
